Doi Inathanon
This highest peak in Thailand is named in honour after the last ruler of the Kingdom of Chiang Mai, Inthawichayanon.

After passing away of Inthawichayanon in 1897, this mountain changed to its present name after the conservationist monarch who ordered his remains to be buried at the top of the mountain.

Therefore, the highest tip recorded (2565.3341m) is where the King Inathanon (Inthawichayanon) memorial (pictured next row below right) is located, instead of the signboard erected near the main car park.

Beside the visit to the peak of the mountain, there are several waterfalls located within the premises that formed part of the source of Chao Praya River - the main river that cuts through the capital Bangkok.

Capitalized on its scenic beauty and cooling climate during the winter season, it's a common sight to see hikers venture up the terrains to seek solace from the urban buzz.

Waterfalls of Doi Inathanon
Wachirathon Waterfall
This was the first waterfall we saw upon arrival at the foot of Doi Inathanon where we had our lunch at a nearby restaurant and was told the surrounding of this area will be flooded if a heavy downpour takes place with water gushing out off the 80-meter fall.

Sirithan Waterfall
HM Queen Sirikit of Thailand gave the name to this 40-meter waterfall after her second visit on 24th of March 2004 (her first visit was two years earlier, based on the description on the signboard located the viewing balcony of the fall) and it's located at the halfway mark to the top the mountain.

The Great Holy Relics Pagoda

When we arrived at the site of these two pagodas, it was noted that one of which was under renovation works.

The Great Holy Relics Pagoda of Nabhamethanidol (pictured left)- Nabhapolbhumisiri were constructed in 1987 and 1992 respectively to commemorate the 60th birthdays of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit with the Buddha's relic kept inside Nobhamethanidol pagoda.

Both pagodas were built and operated by the Royal Thai Air Force.
